China
I’ve now recovered from a 14-hour flight from Chicago to Shanghai. I’ve fended off any number of fake watch and handbag purveyors on the main shopping road there. And now I’m killing time in the Guilin airport, waiting for the fourth member of our group to arrive (his flight was two hours after ours). Nice. This is going to be the hot-and-humid portion of our trip. But it’s also supposed to be quite pretty. I’ll try to update from time to time.

Have you guys heard anything about the tv channel hijacking on May Day? Apparently for 90 minutes the channel was down and anti-government images were shown. I'm curious to know what is being said over there about it...if anything.
Glad to know you made it safely. Why would you avoid fake watches and handbags? Remember my panda, please!
How could they possibly understand what folks over there are saying? Seriously, how is the communication going? Is English pretty common? Let us hear about the cyber connection, how hard to locate, operate, busy, available, all that sort of thing. Be careful.
早晨好你好嗎?
zaoshang hao! ni hoa ma?
hope you're having fun there! i'm a bit jealous, i have to say. the whole reason i'm taking mandarin is so that i can go there someday...
can't wait to see your pics.
I will echo the encouraging voices for you to have fun. I'm also curious--does a fake watch tell you fake time?
