And along with the cold...

With the cold weather, we’ve finally had some snow. Wooo! Unfortunately, this particular snowfall coincided with an extra-long walk I had to take one night due to subway re-routing. But that’s just life in the big city.

Celebration and fame

The big event this weekend (for me at least and, presumably, for them) was Joy and Bill’s wedding. And it was news for others, as well. There were lots of cameras flying around, but I didn’t bring mine. You’ll just have to imagine the happiness and celebration.

It’s cold outside!

It had to happen eventually.

Pulling out older pictures

I have no exciting current stories for you. Instead, here’s another picture from Christmas: a shot of the plum pudding. Out of tradition (but not, evidently, out of a dedication to accuracy), our family sings about figgy pudding when it comes out of the kitchen. It contains no plums. Nor does it contain figs. One of the grossest ingredients is generally suet, although Mom cheated this year. She also cheated with the hard sauce. She did not, however, cheat with the rum. And we never cheat with the wine:

Dinner celebration

A few of my colleagues were in town from London this weekend, which provides a far better excuse to go out to dinner than my usual one: “There’s no food in the apartment.” This is one of them with his brother, who was in town from Washington, DC.

Bridges

Giving some context for yesterday’s picture (and also because I just like the way this bridge looks)—I took it from somewhere in the middle of this:

I heart New York—and smell it, too

It appears as though the mysterious unpleasant smell that enveloped New York City last week will never be solved, and we’ll just have to live the rest of our lives without full closure. I think I can handle that. However, in doing a few web searches to find an appropriate news link, I came across another, similar story. Evidently, while I was away last year, there was actually a mysterious good smell that permeated the city. There is no justice!

In honor of the sweet smell, here’s a picture of the Domino Sugar Factory, which should immediately conjure up images of cookies, gumdrops, and cakes:

Exchanging cross words

There are often newspapers lying around in the subway. Less often, the crossword is completed. I didn’t verify this, but I was informed that this one was filled in incorrectly:

Late decorations

Another sight from the warm winter’s wanderings on Saturday:

But now it’s 33 degrees outside, so go figure. Also, a news update: my refrigerator door opens the correct way now—yaaay!

Winter

The temperature went up to 72 degrees in Central Park on Saturday.

Below the street

Here’s a gloomy picture for Friday. Happy weekend.

My brother’s handiwork

The holidays are over, people are trickling back, work is becoming more steady. But to prolong the season for me and my three readers, here’s a picture of my brother, proudly posing by the smoked salmon he decorated for Christmas day:

He didn’t let me touch it until at least one of mom’s sibling’s families had arrived.
